The Weather Channel launched their presence in Second Life in 2007, to coincide with the premier of Epic Conditions, a TV series about extreme sports and extreme weather. The space has been designed to provide a location where outdoor sports enthusiasts and weather fans to interact with The Weather Channel's weather and video content in natural, dynamic weather environments.

Every environment and activity on Weather Island is based on a real location in which epic conditions create challenges for adventure seekers and extreme sports enthusiasts.

On every environments, signs can be found that gives interesting informations about these real world locations. Why does Steamboat Colorado have such fine, light powder snow? What are the dangers to be found for bikers in the Moab Desert, Utah?
