From FAS Virtual Worlds Almanac
This wiki uses MediaWiki software, just like Wikipedia. However, we have also installed a few extra features that make editing easy and uniform. Specifically, we are using Semantic MediaWiki, with the Semantic forms extension.
[edit] What does this mean for editors?
If you want to create a new article about a virtual world or edit an existing one, you do not have to jump into the wikicode. In fact, we would ask that you not directly edit each article. Instead, click the "edit with form" tab to be taken to the Semantic Form for virtual world articles. Fill in the forms and then save the page. The article will be updated, and the semantic properties will be populated with the data you inputted. If you want to create a new virtual world article, go to Form:Virtual World, type in the name of the virtual world, and hit "Add or Edit."
[edit] What does this mean for readers?
Even if you never edit a page, the semantic extensions will enhance your reading experience. Feel free to click any link on the right sidebar. This will take you to an automatically-generated list of all articles with that property. For example, if you click the "Released" link, you will get a list of all virtual worlds and when they were released. If you click the "Yes" or "No" under "User-Generated Content", you will get a list of all virtual world that do or do not support user-generated content.
We also have a virtual world feature finder that you can use to easily narrow down a list of virtual worlds by many different features and qualities.
[edit] Custom Queries
Semantic forms are machine-readable, which means you can craft queries for the wiki. You can ask, for example, to get a list of all virtual worlds that were released before 2004, support location bookmarking, and are for PCs. To do this, you would type the following code in any page (preferably in the Sandbox or in your user page.

This produces the following result: Agape World Fellowship, and Second Life.
You can also query information in mass with these forms. If you want to get a table of all virtual worlds in English and the year they were released, you would type:
